BRITAIN'S Speedway icon Tai Woffinden has kept a promise – by agreeing to meet fans after winning his third world title.
Woffinden became the first GB rider in history to complete a triple swoop of the sport's ultimate prize in a breathtaking finish to the title race in Poland last October.
He has thousands of fans throughout Europe and now he is ready to hit the road and mix with fans ahead of the new season.
The Scunthorpe born racer will be at Berwick for a second successive year on Friday March 1 and the evening is already sold out – and he's now confirmed appearances at Workington's Railway Club the following night and Scunthorpe Speedway Club for an afternoon event on March 3 (2pm).
"I said when I met fans last winter that I'd go out and do it again if I won the world title so I'm keeping my promise," he said.
"I enjoy these occasions because I'm relaxed, informal and I talk to fans as though we are all just mates in a pub. I tell it how it is, I give my opinion on things and I'm very passionate about what I do.
"I'm looking forward to going back to see the great people of Berwick, then to Workington who I know had a great season last year and then it will be extra special for me to go back to Scunny, the club my Dad and me both raced for."
Woffinden is currently in Australia preparing for a meeting in memory of his father, the Rob Woffinden Classic – and he won the Western Australia State title at the weekend.
And when he returns to his UK base he will step up preparations for the European season which includes the launch of his world title defence – he's never won it back-to-back – in Warsaw, Poland, on May 18.
Tickets are selling fast already for Workington and Scunthorpe after they went on sale on Monday night and a capacity crowd is expected at both venues.
